In 1942, during World War II, in a village in Casamance, Senegal, Colonel Armand, obeying an order from France, must collect all the rice that has been grown. The women are responsible for the harvests: most of the men have been conscripted to fight in mainland France. They decide to resist and hide their rice. The army arrives to punish the village.
