My Life As A Double Bass is a musical « Road Movie » following the 140 year career of a double bass. She carries her bassist on the trail of her history meeting instrument makers, musicians and historians along the way. Through her story we discover the evolution of music making in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and see the widespread availability of musical instruction for all leading to the development of amateur orchestras notably in large companies. We come to understand how the paths of instrument makers, musicians and composers are closely intertwined.

« Forgive me if I am a bit of a show-off but I deserve it. I am 140 years old and have a successful musical career behind me. I was born in 1880 in Mirecourt, the birthplace of French stringed instrument making. And then ? Well, follow me along the roads of France and enjoy the trip that my double bass player and I are making to reconstruct my story. This trip passes through Marseille where I played in an orchestra conducted by renowned composers of that time, such as Richard Strauss and Camille Saint-Saëns, and through Paris where I joined in 1909 the Philharmonic Orchestra of The Credit Lyonnais bank and performed in Salle Gaveau and Salle Pleyel. I have preserved my deep and pure tone that has been admired by all the double bass players we have met during our investigation. Yes, I am a show-off but I am a grand lady. »
